What we collect.
GitTested is a publication. We collect enough to count readers, see which channels send them, and deliver the newsletter people ask for. We do not sell reader data or run advertising trackers.
Reading the site
Cloudflare Web Analytics counts page views and page-load performance. It sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser, and does not identify or follow individual visitors. It is not loaded for visitors in the European Union.
Google Analytics 4 tells us which pages are read and which links and campaigns bring readers here. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, analytics storage is denied by default: no analytics cookies are set and Google receives only cookieless measurement pings. Elsewhere, Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (such as _ga) to recognize a returning browser.
Everywhere, advertising storage and personalization are off, Google signals are off, and the property is not linked to any advertising account. Google Analytics keeps event-level data for 14 months. Blocking the script or cookies in your browser does not affect how the site works.
Cloudflare also processes standard request data, such as IP addresses, to serve and protect the site.
The newsletter
When you subscribe to The Return Value we store your email address, the page you signed up from, a one-way hash of your IP address for rate limiting, and the dates you subscribed, confirmed, or unsubscribed. Nothing is subscribed until you click the confirmation email.
We use email delivery services to send confirmation emails and newsletter editions. We record delivery, bounces, opens, and clicks on tracked links to keep the list healthy and learn what readers find useful. Every edition includes a one-click unsubscribe link.
