kanzo puts coding tasks in your browser

kanzo is a browser task board that coding agents can read and update.

In a diner kitchen, a pigeon in a paper cook's hat runs the pass under a ticket rail of order slips while two orange Claude mascots cook and pull a ticket along the rail; one ticket at the end carries a feather.
Every order hangs on one rail, and the pigeon's own ticket hangs a little apart.

When work spreads across coding sessions, the task list tends to live in whichever terminal you last checked. kanzo puts that list in a browser and lets coding agents update the same cards through MCP (a standard connection for agent tools). You start the agents yourself; kanzo stores their tasks, requirements and comments.

kanzo appeared in late October as an AGPL-3.0 project with pre-1.0 releases every few days. Vibe Kanban, the best-known board built for coding agents, has been shutting down since April, so new boards like kanzo are filling the gap.

Tested: commit 862399f762e78149eccea38b0bcb82c53a3ffa93 on November 4, 2026, on Linux. Workflow: small changes to text parsing, formatting and ordering with Claude Code, including changed requirements and resuming interrupted work. Result: Claude Code completed all 16 coding tasks using a local kanzo board, and completed the same work using only Claude Code’s own task list. Claude Code failed to read or update tasks on a board shared over a network. Verdict: wait for kanzo to mature.

Set up kanzo with your coding agent

Paste this into a coding agent that can run commands.

Install the latest kanzo from https://github.com/emanuele-em/kanzo using its README for my platform.
Start the local board and connect this agent using `kanzo mcp`.
Keep sharing off and add only tasks that agents may work on.
Verify that the browser and agent tools show the same task state.
Re-read tasks before work and leave finished cards for my review. I handle any required logins.

kanzo adds a browser view to task tracking

kanzo’s cards move through stages such as Todo, Doing and Review (a kanban board). You can change requirements and priorities in the browser while agents work from the same queue. kanzo saves those edits, and Claude Code picks them up when work resumes.

Claude Code’s own task list handles the same coding work without kanzo and carries over to new sessions if you set CLAUDE_CODE_TASK_LIST_ID. Choose kanzo if you prefer editing cards and watching progress in a browser.

The kanzo board after Claude Code finished its tasks: completed cards in Done, cards reserved for people still in Todo.

Claude Code cannot use a board shared over a network yet

To share a board, run kanzo share on from the host computer, then kanzo join <address> from another computer. On a joined board, Claude Code could see kanzo’s tools but got errors when reading a task, adding a comment or changing its status.

A user report traced this to kanzo forwarding an empty connection-setup message, and the maintainer merged a fix on November 4. No release includes it yet, so keep Claude Code on a local board until one does.

Tasks reserved for people can be claimed during creation

The Human flag marks a card as work for a person. When a task is created through MCP, kanzo saves it first and adds the flag in a second step, so an agent can claim a new Human card in between, as a user reported. The report is still open. Use a personal list outside kanzo for work an agent must never claim.

An agent claimed a card marked Human: kanzo shows Human checked and the status set to Doing.

Early users are still finding basic bugs

kanzo’s issue tracker reads like a young project’s. One user reported that the sync repository URL could run commands, and the maintainer fixed it the same day. Another filed five bug reports on November 3, including the Human-flag race and sync copying one machine’s open network setting to the others, which can expose a board that has no login. Two of those five are fixed; three are still open.

Backlog.md keeps agent tasks in your repository

Backlog.md is the closest established alternative. Each task is a Markdown file in your Git repository, with a board in the terminal or a local browser, and agents such as Claude Code and Codex connect through MCP. It has been developed since June 2025. For team planning tied to issues and pull requests, GitHub Projects fits better.

Wait for kanzo to mature

Wait on kanzo if you want a browser board for your coding agents: it is two weeks old and still fixing basics. Its local board already works with Claude Code, but the sharing fix is not in a release and a card marked Human can still be claimed by an agent. For now, keep Claude Code’s own task list, or use Backlog.md if you want a board that lives in your repository.
